made to measure,

these are a few from the mark fast autumn/winter collection 2009. his spring designs are pretty fabulous as well but i definitely still love all the winter collections from last yearmark fast 2 copymark fast 3

mark fast 1

he knits the pieces on a domestic machine and then fits them to the body. i love how personal this makes the garment to the wearer and although his work doesn’t fit right in with sustainable fashion, i love the idea of it being made to measure. this is one of my main inspirations for this slow fashion project. i want to create pieces with this concept behind them, sculpting something that will form an emotional attachment between the wearer and the garment.

“Knits have a more intimate relationship with the wearer than tailoring or corsetry. The garment takes on the shape of the person inside it, and the finished look is always a collaboration between the two.” – Claudia Croft on Mark Fast, Sunday Times Style, 11th October 2009
